The Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly is a three-day international relations simulation for high school students held annually in downtown Toronto. At SOMA, delegates gain a keen awareness of international relations within the wider community as well as a deep insight into the dynamics and inner mechanisms of the United Nations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies. SOMA provides delegates with an opportunity to debate the important issues of our era, and draft resolutions in response. In this way, delegates will develop their ability to problem-solve and work with others who are equally motivated and passionate to deal with topics and issues of global concern.

Founded in 1972, SOMA in its 51st iteration continues to build on its decades of experience. With international scope and delegates from around the globe, the assembly has served successfully to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. SOMA offers a tailored experience, delving into issues and topics most relevant and pertinent to high school students. This longevity and environment make SOMA one of the most eminent model assemblies of its kind in the world.

SOMA strives to develop and foster a constructive forum for discussion on complex global issues, such as international peace, security, and economic and social progress. With in-depth examination and resolutions and topics pertaining to pressing issues, SOMA stresses the journey and process of finding a solution over the product. During the conference, students will learn the importance of national interests with the needs of the international community while developing, through experience, an understanding of the powers at play within the United Nations as well as the limitations of international negotiations.
